Structured, evidence-based treatment for anxiety and depression using CBT, ACT and mindfulness techniques.
Anxiety and depression respond well to structured psychological treatment. The work is practical: identifying the thought and behaviour patterns keeping the difficulty in place, then testing and changing them step by step.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has the strongest evidence base for both conditions and forms the backbone of this work, supplemented by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and mindfulness where avoidance or rumination is the dominant pattern.
You will usually leave the first few sessions with something concrete to try before the next one. Progress is tracked so that improvement is visible rather than a matter of impression.
Many people notice a meaningful change within 8 to 12 sessions, though this varies with how long the difficulty has been present and what else is going on. Progress is reviewed together regularly.
Not necessarily. Psychological therapy alone is effective for many people. If medication may help, a referral to a trusted psychiatrist can be arranged and the two approaches can run alongside each other.
